The results season is getting into gear on Techmark, where the All-Share Index was recently valued at 1,442.02, down almost 2.2 per cent on the prior quarter, with full-year figures having contrasting effects on its constituent companies. Heading north was restructured communications technology counter Spirent, sparking up 5.5p, roughly ten per cent, to 61p on well-received 2007 results. Adjusted operating profits increased by 200 per cent plus to £25.5 million – a 140 per cent surge in earnings to 3.57p was unveiled.
Cash-rich mobile computing solutions counter Psion perked up by 5p to 100.5p on annual improvements in sales, profits and cash. On sales of £199.7 million, pre-tax profits skipped 42 per cent higher to £10.8 million and the company closed the year with £38.3 million net cash.
Shifting south was CSR, off more than 17 per cent at 353.25p on cautious outlook comments, despite issuing strong 2007 results, buoyed by a strong fourth quarter at the Bluetooth technology group.
Meanwhile, software concern Macro 4, in the midst of restructuring, shed 13.5p to 120p on disappointing interim figures to December. Profits collapsed to a mere £6,000 (2006: £1 million) off a top line of £14.1 million (2006: £14.9 million) in a tough and competitive market.
