Number plate recognition specialist Appian Technology says it has won orders worth £832,000 from the police and other clients.
The Buckinghamshire-based company says it has won three contracts, together worth £402,000, to install fixed-site automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) systems with an un-named ‘UK metropolitan police force’ and two new commercial customers. The police deal is worth £105,000 of this and is for nine of Appian’s Stinger intelligent ANPR cameras at fixed sites in one London borough to monitor vehicle movement for police and other security agencies. The other two contracts are with a large shopping centre in the London area and a large south of England county council to monitor car park movements and over-frequent waste site visits.
These contract wins come hard on the heels of a £430,000 order to install a ‘major regional ANPR system’ with another un-named police force. This involves Appian integrating its own system into the regional police system and installing 21 ‘advanced Cobra ANPR’ cameras to cover several key trunk roads.
Pat Ryan, chairman of AIM-quoted Appian, says the new commercial orders represent ‘new applications for our ANPR technology’. He maintains the company, which lost £3 million in the year to last September, sees these orders as opening the way to a new potential growth market for the company.
Appian shares fell from 15.62p at the start of 2007 to 2.78p last month. Now 4.42p, they value the company at £8.2 million.
