With Gianluca Vialli and his expensively assembled group of supposedly quality players failing to produce the goods, Watford's chances of promotion from the netherlands of the Nationwide League look slim. This is a major disappointment for the club, which is chaired by Sir Elton John and clearly desperate to get back into the top-flight. It also puts its accounts into perspective. Losses fell from £2.5m to £1.7m in the first half to 31 December on turnover up from £5.4m to £8.6m. Watford is awaiting planning permission for a £7.5m stand and wants to build indoor facilities for its youth academy. Above all, though, it needs short-term success on the pitch. Avoid.
