The drug delivery group is one step closer to the American market, as it has lodged a New Drug Application with the US Food & Drug Administration with its partner Sanofi-Synthelabo. The application is for Xatral OD, a sustained release formulation of a common drug used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate gland). This incorporates SkyePharma's proprietary Geomatrix technology, which uses a sandwich of two ingredients in pill form to release the active ingredient at variable rates. The product has already been launched successfully in Europe, and should produce significant revenue in the US. The good news flow has seen the shares rise 25% already this year.
