Iraq-focused oil explorer Gulf Keystone Petroleum (GKP) has begun drilling at the Sheikh Adi-2 well in the Sheikh Adi block.
Following shareholder pressure, carpet manufacturer Victoria (VCP) has decided to hoist the for sale sign and assess potential bids for the company.
Last month the fully listed floorcoverings specialist warned shareholders it was aware of a consortium which was planning to seek a general meeting to remove its independent non-executive directors. If the meeting had gone ahead, the board was of the belief that the incoming directors would take effective control of the day to day management of its activities.
The looming battle was to be led by Alexander Anton, a former director of Victoria. Following discussions with shareholders it was of the opinion they would not welcome the move, but in light of talks some investors have requested the board examine options to accelerate the realisation of shareholder value.
Interim results to 1 October revealed a 17 per cent increase in sales to £39 million, as pre-tax profits soared 127 per cent to £1.3 million. Though recent trading has toughened due to cautious consumer spending.
Victoria has signed up BDO to undertake the process. The shares are up 7.5p to 310p today on the news. Management are unavailable for comment today, but our advice to shareholders would be to sit tight and await further developments.
