Gulf starts at Sheikh Adi-2 25/05/2012
Iraq-focused oil explorer Gulf Keystone Petroleum (GKP) has begun drilling at the Sheikh Adi-2 well in the Sheikh Adi block.
Ireland focused exploration company Conroy Gold & Natural Resources (CGNR) has secured seven new prospecting licenses.
The 300km area spans Counties Clare, Tipperary and Kilkenny - more importantly, gold has previously been reported within these locations. Conroy states that the areas hold a similar geology to the Armagh/Monaghan gold belt, which is the location the AIM counter is working on to shift the emphasis towards establishing a gold mine.
Charismatic chairman Professor Richard Conroy says 'it is important to secure this similar geological terrain and to initiate preliminary exploration on it.' The Co. Kilkenny area is home to where Prof. Conroy previously discovered the zind producing Galmoy mine.
It has achieved positive scoping results on its Clontibret gold project, with encouraging signs from recent infill drilling which further define gold zones. Conroy has now initiated detailed environmental monitoring, as well as a site assessment and ecological studies. Pre and final feasibility will follow before submitting a planning and mining application - a precursor to mine development.
Conroy raised £1.8 million in the year to May at 6p a share and has subsequently secured a further £750,000 at 3.625p a share. At 2.875p, this well followed share continues to have speculative appeal as it seeks to monitise its past exploration efforts.
