Nickel play Horizonte Minerals (HZM) is buying two prospects next to its flagship Araguia project in Brazil for C$2 million (£1.3 million) in shares.
The London-based company is paying for the Vila Oita and Floresta projects in northern Brazil's Carajas mineral district by issuing 8.5 million new shares to their present owner, Toronto-listed Lara Exploration.
Horizonte, itself listed in Toronto as well as on AIM, says Vila Oito has an informally estimated resource of ten to 11 million tonnes of ore with 1.3 to 1.4 per cent nickel, while drilling at Floresta has yielded promising results, including 6.7 metres with 1.28 per cent nickel. Steered by chief executive officer Jeremy Martin, the company hopes to achieve a resource target of 100 million tonnes of nickel-bearing ore by the end of this year.
Canadian mining group Teck has a hefty stake in Horizonte, whose shares have fared poorly since 2006's AIM float at 30p. Growth Company Investor highlighted the shares at 10p last August, before suggesting partial profit taking at 27p in February.
They now trade at 13.62p. Hold on for now.
