NICE boost for Deltex Medical

30/03/2011 Robert Tyerman

Shares in Deltex Medical Group (DEMG) have surged on a recommendation for its key CardioQ-ODM system from the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE).

The Chichester-based company, global leader in 'oesophageal Doppler monitoring', to probe blood circulation in surgical patients, says NICE has published 'final guidance', recommending the application of CardioQ-ODM be extended to cover patients undergoing major or high-risk surgery or other surgical patients in whom a clinician would consider using invasive cardiovascular monitoring.

AIM-quoted Deltex, which cut its losses from £2.1 million to £1.5 million last year, argues CardioQ-ODM saves hospitals an average £1,100 per patient by reducing post-operative complications and the use of central venous catheters and shortening the length of patient stays. Chief executive Ewan Phillips declares following NICE's new guidance would be a 'significant step' towards enabling the National Health Service to deliver the £20 billion of efficiency savings it is now seeking.

Floated in 2001 at 25p, Deltex shares have been volatile, trading between 30.88p and 9.25p over the past year. Now 29.25p, up 46 per cent this morning, they offer further potential.
