Iraq-focused oil explorer Gulf Keystone Petroleum (GKP) has begun drilling at the Sheikh Adi-2 well in the Sheikh Adi block.
AIM 50-quoted broadband satellite operator Avanti Communications Group (AVN) has announced that it has completed orbit testing of the HYLAS 1 satellite.
The London-headquartered venture enthused that the 'testing process confirmed that HYLAS 1 is working in conformance with specification, and in some areas, delivering higher performance than originally specified.'
Avanti added that the satellite's lifetime is expected to be 'at least six months greater than planned' and to have power 'several percentage points better than specification' which the company argues will lead to 'improved service quality, flexibility and usable capacity.'
Avanti, which last year saw its shares soar following the successful launch of its HYLAS 1 satellite, also reported that it had signed a seven year contract with a 'new virtual network operator' for the sale of 80mb of capacity. The contract, worth 7.1 million over the seven years is with a customer with 'approximately 3,000 satellite broadband end user installations in Europe' though Avanti note that for reasons of 'commercial sensitivity' the customer will not be named.
Following the announcement analysts at Cenkos maintained their existing forecasts. Cenkos is forecasting pre-tax losses of £12.7 million on turnover of £5.6 million for the year to June 2011, soaring to a profit of £6.8 million on turnover set to more than quadruple to £29 million.
Last rated by Growth Company Investor in February at 608p, at which point we advised taking profit with a 'reduce' recommendation, the shares have lost 26 per cent since, currently trading at 450p as investor excitement regarding its prospects has cooled. At the current price we now rate the shares as a hold.
