AIM biotech star Sareum Holdings (SAR) has provided an encouraging update on its studies with Cancer Research Technology.
The Cambridge-headquartered concern reported that it received 'positive results' from pre-clinical in-vivo efficacy studies from their collaboration with Cancer Research Technology and The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR).
A recent 'colon cancer pre-clinical model study' carried out by the Institute of Cancer Research demonstrated that a combination of a Checkpoint Kinase 1 inhibitor (Chk1) together with a chemotherapeutic gemcitabine demonstrates a 'greater than two-fold reduction in cancer growth rate' compared to treatment with the same dose of gemcitabine without the Chk1 inhibitor.
Further pre-clinical in-vivo studies revealed that the collaboration Chk1 inhibitor can 'reduce cancer growth' in both AML (acute myeloid leukaemia) and neuroblastoma (a childhood cancer.)
CEO Tim Mitchell remarked that the results represented 'exciting advances' that were 'demonstrating efficacy of our Chk1 compounds in several cancer models.' He added that the results will 'significantly enhance the licensing package' and 'assist the collaboration in selecting the best compound' for development into a clinical trials candidate.
