Gulf starts at Sheikh Adi-2 25/05/2012
Iraq-focused oil explorer Gulf Keystone Petroleum (GKP) has begun drilling at the Sheikh Adi-2 well in the Sheikh Adi block.
Ormonde Mining (ORM) says infill drilling at Barruecopardo in Spain has shown encouraging tungsten mineralisation. The Irish company, based in Navan, Co, Meath, indicates the initial three holes drilled have produced results including six metres showing 0.5 per cent WO3 (tungsten oxide), three metres showing 0.8 per cent WO3 and two metres showing 2 per cent WO3.
AIM-quoted Ormonde applied last month for a mining concession at Barruecopardo in Spain's Salamanca province, reckoned to hold a possible 40,000 tonnes. Managing director Kerr Anderson says 'drilling is proceeding well with
these initial results from the narrow southern extent of the deposit in line with our expectations.'
The company, which also has a copper and gold joint venture with Antofagasta Minerals at La Zarza in Spain and several gold prospects in the west of the country, sees Barruecopardo as its flagship project. The aim is to create a significant producer in a world tungsten market traditionally dominated by China and Anderson draws comfort from tungsten's near-50 per cent price rise to $370 a tonne over the past six months.
Floated at 22p six years ago, Ormonde shares were notably poor performers until recently. Highlighted by Growth Company Investor at 4p in September, they now change hands at 11.25p, valuing the company at £3.2 million, and offer speculative potential.
