Gulf starts at Sheikh Adi-2 25/05/2012
Iraq-focused oil explorer Gulf Keystone Petroleum (GKP) has begun drilling at the Sheikh Adi-2 well in the Sheikh Adi block.
Uruguay Mineral Exploration (UME) says it is in discussions which ‘may or may not’ lead to an offer.
Based in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo and quoted on AIM and the Toronto Venture Exchange, UME operates Uruguay’s only producing gold mine, at San Gregorio, and has an array of gold, diamond, copper, lead, zinc and nickel exploration prospects in the country. The company says the present talks, with an unnamed potential bidder, are at an early stage and warns there ‘is no certainty’ either as to the terms of any bid or whether a bid will be agreed.
Investors in UME, who saw its price collapse from 289p in 2006 to 14.5p two months ago, will be hoping for something, at least. The shares have bounced to 27.5p, valuing the company at £13.4 million, at which level their appeal is strictly speculative.
