Drug-discoverer ImmuPharma says pre-clinical data has shown its IPP-204106 cancer drug can curb the growth of many human cancer cell lines.

The AIM-quoted company reports that data on this anti-cancer nucleolin antagonist (‘Nucant’) peptide confirm the ability of IPP-204106 compounds to ‘effectively control and stop the growth of a large panel of human cancer cell lines'. Collectively, the studies comprised breast cancer, prostate cancer, melanoma, leukaemia, colon cancer and pancreatic cancer cell lines.

London-based ImmuPharma says that ‘in vivo’ studies showed most tumours were completely eradicated and survival time increased without additional treatment. The company has filed patents covering many Nucant structures and initiated the regulatory studies needed to develop IPP-204106, while pursuing ‘grant opportunities from the French national research agencies’.

Chairman Richard Warr declares, ‘This exciting new drug has tremendous commercial potential if it meets its target profile of preventing tumour growth as well as metastasis while being non-toxic.’ Investors agree, having pushed the shares up 23.5p this morning to 80p, nearly twice their 12-month low of 44p and valuing the company at £58.2 million.
