Professional services, healthcare and training group Quantica made unchanged interim pre-tax profits of £1.1 million despite robust revenues.

Fully-listed Quantica increased operating profits a third to £2 million before exceptional items in the six months to May on revenue up by the same proportion to £22.8 million. Administrative expenses doubled to £5.2 million and other costs rose significantly.

The company, which is changing its financial year end to December, says pro rata profit before goodwill amortisation rose 47 per cent to £2.5 million in the half year to June. Revenues rose 37 per cent on the same basis to £23.7 million.

Professional services, comprising technology and search and selection, put in the best performance, helped by September's £12.5 million takeover of Robinson Keane Search and Selection and RK Accountancy. Operating profits in this division rose 50 per cent to £1.8 million, though fee income rose 124 per cent to £6.5 million.

Training fees rose 55 per cent to £3.1 million, while operating profits lagged with a 25 per cent gain to £500,000. Quantica blames an easing in fee income and profits on the healthcare side on increased regulation.

The company, which does not propose an interim dividend, maintains the outlook 'remains positive' and says it continues to pursue growth opportunities, 'including selected acquisitions'. At 50.75p, down 7p today, the shares value the company at £33.6 million.
