DNA sequencing and genotyping service specialist Medical Solutions will become the first UK supplier of systems from Illumina of California.

Fully listed Medical Solutions says it is implementing a new technology platform at its Nottingham laboratory and will become the UK's first commercial service provider of Genome Analyzer and BeadStation platforms from Illumina Inc, which develops, makes and markets ‘next-generation’ life-science tools and integrated systems to analyse genetic variation and biological function. Medical Solutions’ commercial director, Dr Tom Weaver, says, 'Customers have already expressed significant interest in applications run on the Genome Analyzer and BeadStation platforms.'

He adds, 'It is our intention to develop strategic partnerships with these early adopters.' This news has brought some relief to the company’s depressed shares, which touched 96p seven years ago before collapsing to 4.37p in 2005 and are now 7.25p, up 0.5p today, valuing the company at nearly £15 million.
