US electronic component giant Schott has agreed an exclusive manufacture deal for Transense Technology’s Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) torque sensors.
The ‘patent administration agreement’ covers intellectual property jointly developed by Bicester-based Transense and Schott for the packaging of SAW. Under the deal, Schott, a world leader in electronic component packaging with £1.5 billion annual turnover, has the exclusive right to make the packages, paying a royalty on each to Transense.
Jim Perry, Transense’s chief executive officer, says the company is looking forward to continuing close collaboration with Schott. He sees this leading to ‘the development of packaged sensors for a variety of additional applications, such as in-body medical sensors’.
Floated on AIM at 25p nine years ago, Transense shares have been volatile performers. Recommended by Growth Company Investor at 54.75p a year ago, they hit 141.5p last April and now stand at 89.25p, valuing the company at nearly £51 million.
The Schott deal looks good news, though a measure of volatility is likely to persist.
