Deal hopes boost Adwalker

Shares in electronic sandwich board concern Adwalker have soared on the back of prospects for two contracts under negotiation.

Dublin-based Adwalker, which prefers to call itself a ‘specialist in portable media solutions’, saw its shares climb 92 per cent today after enthusiastic buying – suggested by spokesmen to have emanated from fans in its home city – before settling back to a 53 per cent rise on the day to 3.75p.

Chaired by Irish entrepreneur Padraic O'Connor, the AIM-quoted company, whose broker and nominated adviser is John East, has hastened to issue a statement that it is negotiating two potentially major deals.

Adwalker, run by chief executive Simon Crisp, said it is ‘in discussions’ with ‘a major corporation’ to use the Irish group’s platform in that corporation’s client services. In addition, Adwalker is talking to ‘another major corporation’ about running a pilot scheme or an interactive fixed screen digital network, which could lead to a Europe-wide launch if successful.

Spokesmen for Adwalker, which lost £1.1 million in the first half of last year, said these negotiations have been going on ‘for some time’. They insisted the company has been appropriately tight-lipped throughout, until obliged by today’s buying to make the statement it has.

If one or other of these deals comes through, the shares, which traded at more than 12p on Ofex before their AIM float in 2005, might have a chance of regaining their former lustre, other things being equal.
