German fuel cell developer Proton Power Systems has appointed 30-year power sector veteran Thomas Melczer as its new chief executive.
Beginning his long career at Siemens, Melczer eventually rose to the top of the engineering giant’s component power supply division as managing director after holding various managerial positions in the US, Mexico and North Africa.
Last year, Melczer was hired to run SPower Holding, provider and integrator of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) products. Prior to this, he was managing director of Masterguard, a specialist provider of UPS products that was bought by Chloride Group in 2000.
Melczer has expressed excitement at joining a company poised to move from technology development to cash generation. ‘This is an interesting time for the fuel cell and systems industry, as demand for its products is being driven by ever increasing energy prices and environmental legislation.
I believe that this presents Proton with a genuine window of opportunity in a dynamic global market.’
Proton, whose losses grew to £2.4 million last year, has also promoted non-executive director Ali Naini as its new deputy chairman and chosen Arbuthnot Securities as nominated adviser and broker.
