Blue Oar Securities, the broking group headed by Andrew Monk and formerly known as Corporate Synergy, has been politely but firmly telling some of its smaller corporate clients that they must look elsewhere. Monk’s corporate broking colleague Luke Ahern says the list has gone down from a peak of 100 and explains ‘we are trying to take the business upmarket’.
‘It is not a cull,’ he insists. Rather, the broker has been asking some of its companies, including Chinese ones, to consider why they are on the stock market and whether they fully grasp the need to comply with current market regulations.
These include the requirement that they all deliver key corporate announcements in time. ‘We have been firmer,’ argues Ahern, ‘and we have had the confidence to do it.’ No doubt envious US critics of London’s standards will be delighted.
