Phil Carroll is keen on SABMiller, the brewing and bottling giant behind brands such as Peroni and Grolsch. Arguing that the company is one with ‘strong emerging market exposure leading earnings growth’, the analyst notes its strong presence in Latin America, in particular Colombia and Peru.
Furthermore, SAB is described as having had a ‘busy’ year of M&A activity, after acquiring Australian beer brand Foster’s this September in a deal worth £6.5 billion and subsequently taking a 24 per cent stake in Turkish brewing giant Anadolu Efes, the company behind the Efes Turkish beer brand. He rates the shares as a buy.
Burns sees the sky
Fellow Shore analyst Karl Burns expounds on the merits of aviation and newspaper distribution concern John Menzies, following an encouraging trading update.
The FTSE Small Cap constituent issued a trading update in which it reported a 6 per cent rise in like-for-like revenues, while 43 new contract wins are expected to increase full-year revenue by £34 million.
Burns argues the financial position of Menzies ‘remains strong’, suggesting that with cash generation, a low valuation and growth in its Aviation division the shares are a buy.
