People: Falklands war is ‘inconceivable’
With Argentinean president Cristina Kirchner denouncing the United Kingdom as a ‘crude colonial power’ after comments by David Cameron that the Falkland Islands should remain British ‘full stop, end of story’, there has been heightened tension over the islands’ future.
However, David Hudd, chairman of Falkland Islands Holdings, the company that runs both a retail network and fishing operations on the islands, is ‘certain’ that an armed conflict is ‘inconceivable’. ‘We have a runway you can reinforce very quickly and we have Typhoons,’ he argues, adding that the remarks by Kirchner are the ‘beating of a drum prior to elections’.
