Video games retailer GAME Group has appointed board member Chris Bell as its new chairman. Bell, who replaces the 70-year-old Peter Lewis, has been a member of the board since 2003. He has also had stints at board level with both Ladbrokes and Allied Domecq, having previously served as the chief executive of Ladbrokes.
Regarding the departure of Peter Lewis, chief executive Ian Shepherd enthuses that Lewis helped transform GAME ‘from a chain of around 130 outlets into the UK’s leading specialist video game retailer.’
On Bell, Shepherd says the board ‘looks forward to working with him to implement our growth plans for the future’ while ‘leveraging his experience to provide support and insight over this period of change’.
Meanwhile, Bell himself says he wants to ‘thank Peter for his guidance’ and ‘wish him the best’. He adds that the team at GAME is ‘following a sound and promising strategy to build on their customer focus and firmly establish GAME as a multi-channel retailer’.
