Friends in the City have been celebrating the 80th birthday of Trevor Bass, doyen of financial public relations who helped the controversial Blue Arrow recruitment float in the 1980s and now advises clients for Threadneedle Communications.
Bob Holt, head of social housing success story Mears Group, staged a lunch at the Butchers’ Hall for Trevor, a former City editor for the Daily Express who entered PR in 1970 and has held the hands of a succession of high-profile business figures ever since.
The following day, Trevor, well known for his corporate lunches in Rules restaurant near Covent Garden where wine flowed and the jokes epitomised traditional uncensored market banter, was at work again, hosting a repast elsewhere for a company in the orbit of another friend and client, serial investor Bob Morton. As always, repartee at Trevor’s table was uninhibited and free from the slightest taint of political correctness.
