SCOTTY wins £0.3m Dutch order

Companies: SCO

Video telecoms recovery hopeful SCOTTY Group has won its first order in the Netherlands, worth an initial €500,000 (£385,000), for its 'telehealth' range of equipment, from a Dutch government-backed medical consortium, writes Robert Tyerman.

AIM-quoted SCOTTY, the product of last year's merger of video and internet flop Motion Media with Austrian military video communications kit supplier Scotty Tele-Transport, is to supply video-conferencing systems and call centre technology, among other items of software and hardware. The order comes as a result of a successful home care pilot project carried out by the Dutch government and SCOTTY says it is negotiating with the consortium about becoming preferred for future orders.

The company's technology will enable medical clients to push a button on their TV remote control to create a live video connection to a nursing care centre. SCOTTY will ship its first batch of hardware next month.

Bulls hope the Dutch deal will prove one of many, whereby SCOTTY's technology will win it wider recognition and rewards, after a failure to win a hoped-for US Veterans Administration order forced the company to issue a stark profits warning last month. At a lowly 3.13p, against nearly 20p for Motion Media in autumn 2003, the shares are a punt on more contract wins.
