Video communications group Scotty has appointed Lord Trefgarne as its new chairman. The AIM-quoted company recently won orders from helicopter manufacturer Eurocopter and the Dutch government. It waves goodbye to Derham O’Neill, who is vacating the chair after less than a year.
Lord Trefgarne, a keen pilot who won the Royal Aero Club Bronze Medal for flying from England to Australia and back in a single-engine aircraft, says his personal involvement in aviation ‘helped me to recognise a promising future for Scotty's high tech aviation communications solutions.’ Trefgarne recently expressed his concerns in the House of Lords about the shortage of military helicopters.
Scotty chief executive officer Kurt Kerschat, nicknamed Captain Kirk, is pleased at making ‘such a high calibre’ appointment. He says it will improve Scotty’s reputation with existing and future customers and ‘will help us to achieve our goals even faster’.
Trefgarne has been a director of Siebe and AWD Bedford as well as president of the Mechanical Trades Confederation. ‘Scotty is now a stable business,’ he comments, ‘which is poised to make huge strides in the next few years.’
