In an upbeat trading statement, Pure Entertainment, the on-line distributor of free computer games, has revealed a record 9.3 million hits on its freeloader.com website for January. Freeloader.com obtains advertising revenues based on personal profile information in return for free games. In essence, it is an advertising platform with free games being the mechanism by which it attracts a large enough audience to deliver its advertising campaign. Its UK site, launched last May, now has over 250,000 users and the localised sites in France, Germany and the US have all experienced growth since November. Before Christmas, the group announced that it expected to become cash positive ahead of its previous March 2002 timetable. VP of market development Stefanie Ostmann confirmed today that 'the target is to break even this year'. Nevertheless, at the interim stage to 30 September, the group posted a £3.34m loss (£91,000 loss) on sales of £213,000 (£422,000).
