Pure Entertainment, the on-line distributor of free computer games, announced strong traffic to its web site at the AGM. Within the first three weeks of July, a further 35,000 users registered, bringing the total to 155,000. Page impressions during June ran to 3.6m. These figures are vital to the success of Pure Entertainment, which is based on a business model that charges premium advertising rates for very targeted marketing. As users download a game, they are asked specific questions which are then used to direct them to relevant adverts. This seems to have gone down a hit with advertisers and media buying agencies. Not only does chief executive Harry Holmwood claim that the click-through rate on adverts is 35% higher than the industry average, but also that its site, Freeloader.com, has sold all its advertising space for July. Shares, which took a battering in the dotcom fall-out, were buoyed by the positive progress. 'We've proved that we've achieved what we said we would', explained Holmwood, 'but shares are still ludicrously low'. With £7m of the £9.93m raised in October still in the coffers, Holmwood revealed that the group will be launching sites for the French, German and American markets by the end of the year, with a Spanish-speaking version to follow.
