Cross-media company Galleon's rights representation arm, Clipper Media, has signed an exclusive worldwide licensing and merchandising deal with the world's top chess player, Garry Kasparov. 'There are only two sportsmen with levels of recognition and reverence that are truly worldwide - one is Muhammad Ali, the other is Garry Kasparov,' argues John Knox, head of Clipper. Knox, who is an expert in international intellectual property representation, has held senior licensing roles at Paramount and Warner Brothers. He says Kasparov's profile will soar this October when the world number one takes on the reigning world computer chess champion, 'Junior', in Jerusalem. Clipper was set up this month to handle licensing and merchandising programmes for all of Galleon's children's animation properties, such as The Cornish Riviera Pasties, PC Pepper and Astro Knights, as well as 'external' clients like Kasparov. Chaired by James Driscoll, Galleon joined Aim from Ofex in December after reversing into former mining venture Andaman Resources. Recent full-year figures to March reflected a full year of Andaman, but only four months of Galleon. Pre-tax losses widened from £169,414 to £812,497 on sales of £276,886.
