Market leading pizza delivery firm Domino's Pizza UK & Ireland has delivered the expected £2.2m of pre-tax profits and directors have high hopes for the future. It now operates and franchises a total of 215 outlets across the British Isles (nine of them in Ireland) and it also has e-commerce capability via its website and other interactive media. Company chairman Colin Halpern is very excited about the e-commerce side of things, currently responsible for about 4% of the total sales within the Domino's 'system' and 'growing extremely well' according to Halpern. However, Halpern and September-appointed chief executive Stephen Hemsley are under no illusions that the most important factor for the group's growth is the number of outlets, the aim being market domination of the sort achieved by McDonald's. In the long term this means it wants to have 1,000 stores in the UK (its current number cover 30-35% of the population, much of it patchily). The £2.2m in pre-tax profits was up 62% on last year's and was achieved on the back of group turnover up 27%to £32.5m.
