Celtic is attracting renewed support from many circles. Despite announcing a dive of 92% in pre-tax profits for 1999 on turnover up 22% to £33.8m, shares rose 7.5p to 300p. Players' wages gobbled up increasing cash although investors seem to have resigned themselves to this fact. Indeed, profits from operations were actually up 33% to £6.75m. Last night's 6-0 win against the Welsh side Cwmbran in the first leg of the Uefa Cup tie also buoyed shares. Retail catering within the stadium is to be heavily promoted this year, and near full capacity attendances are anticipated for home matches, as the Bhoys can rely on the largest number of season ticket-holders in Britain.
