The Cambridge-based vaccines business has been awarded £928,000 by the US Department of Defense to stop its soldiers suffering from diarrhoea. The grant will be used to support Acambis' programmes to develop vaccines to prevent E.coli and Campylobacter, two common diarrhoea-causing diseases often encountered by the US military stationed overseas. Phase II trials are scheduled to start at the end of 2001 for the ETEC E.coli vaccine, while the Campylobacter vaccine has started pre-clinical trials. The shares have moved up 3p since the news.
