The Cambridge-based vaccines business has signed an agreement with the Swiss Serum and Vaccine Institute (Berna), a world leader in orally-delivered travel vaccines. The deal will combine Acambis' typhoid vaccine with Berna's manufacturing skills and should lead to the first vaccine to protect against both typhoid and cholera. There will also be scope for extra work in the travel vaccine field. Full year results to December for Acambis showed a reduced loss of £11.1m compared to £12.5m last year. The $200m manufacturing agreement with Baxter and the $343m smallpox vaccine contract with the US Government should stand Acambis in good stead.
