A journalist from Streatham made history for Sportingbet this week when he placed a bet through interactive TV - trumpeted as 'a world first' by the on-line, offshore betting concern. Sportingbet's services are now offered to the 156,000 Telewest interactive television subscribers. The Ofex-listed concern looks well-placed to reap the rewards from interactive TV betting, a market which ABN Amro forecasts will be worth £1.4bn by 2004. Its international ambitions were reflected by the recent acquisition of Betmaker.com, a Costa Rican counterpart with turnover of £100m and the third largest brand name in the US.
