Chairman Bryan Gray does not seem to know which way to turn. Exactly two years ago, following heavy interim losses, he announced he wanted to trim the squad's size. Accompanying the 18% leap in interim turnover to £2.7m was the group's decision to actually increase the professional squad from 21 to 27, bumping up staff costs 23% to £349,000. Nevertheless, losses were trimmed 43% to £239,000, boosted by the group's performances in the Worthington and FA cups, and by record season ticket sales of 5,200. Investment in this club (and the many other small quoted football teams) is best left to the diehard fans.
