Created with the reversal of Pubs'n'Bars into Real Leisure, and the acquisition of Acorn Pubs and Quality Quest, Pubs'n'Bars has rapidly expanded from 4 to 51 pubs in the past year. Full-year results reflected its acquisitive activity. As turnover rocketed 1100% to just over £4m, the group dashed £263,000 into the red (losses of £237,000). A further nine pubs have been added since the year end through the acquisition of West Country-based Celebration Inns. It also recently announced that it had been granted planning permission for a 28-bedroom hotel at Elephant and Castle, and had applied for several late licenses for two of its North London pubs. Like-for-like sales for the first quarter of 2000 were ahead 3.5%.
