Mobile email software provider Synchronica has new emerging and established market contracts lined up after winning deals in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Africa.
The AIM-quoted company is understood to be close to winning a major Asian order, hard on the heels of licensing its Mobile Gateway software to Emircom, a leading UAE telecoms systems integrator, and clinching a Nigerian licensing agreement, worth an upfront £226,000 with annual fees to follow. Synchronica recently won a potentially large order with a major Chinese mobile phone maker in what chief executive officer Carsten Brinkschulte calls a ‘major breakthrough’ and expects to open up possibilities in Russia, Germany, Switzerland and Eastern Europe through the £3.9 million paper acquisition of the operating arm of fellow AIM counter Axis Mobile.
The multi-billion dollar Sun Microsystems group from California has opted to take the first major version for the application server sync suite technology from Synchronica under a contract signed last year. But Brinkschulte argues the best prospects for mobile email businesses are still in fast-growing emerging markets, where landlines are inadequate, personal computer penetration low and simpler technical requirements make it easier and faster to deliver the software needed.
Synchronica offers services to keep customers loyal. Brinkschulte argues the company has an edge over potential competitors in the emerging markets by using industry standard protocols, whereas rivals use proprietary protocols, which require extra software to use and are in consequence experiencing a disappointing take-up rate.
Analysts suggest loss-making Synchronica, whose shares at 3.62p are a small fraction of past levels, should move into the black in late 2009 and enjoy a profitable 2010. They could repay a punt for those who do not mind taking a risk even in today’s volatile markets.
